Happy To Be Miserable!

Written by Paul M. Hecht

My wife recently told me how she had just spoken with a long lost friend and all that person did was complain about everything!

Talk about a useless state of mind. Complaining does nothing but make a person look bad to others. Plus it does not serve them.

Negative thoughts bread more, just like positive and appreciative thoughts bread more of those too. Ever heard the saying “success attracts more success?”

This phone call reminded me of a study about successful and unsuccessful people that Brian Tracy talks about. The study followed university students over a 2 year period after graduation. The study was to find out who became successful and what was the largest contributing factor or factors to their success.

The graduates were called at random times during the day over a 2 year period and asked only one questions.

The question was – “what are you thinking about right now?”

After the 2 year study was complete – the results came back as follows.

The most sucessful graduates thought about “what they wanted and how to get it.” The unsuccessful graduates thought about “all their problems and who was to blame for them.”

What a simple, yet effective illustration of how simple thoughts help us succeed. The power of this study is simple, yet profound.

Are you constantly thinking about “what you want and how to get it” or, are you simply happy to be miserable?
